The Quotation

Following on from our free survey of your property we will then prepare a free quotation.

This normally entails us drawing out your property to scale of 1;50 and planning out the room/s required. We try to incorporate all of the ideas you passed on to us in a workable design.
Sometimes during this planning process we may see ways to enhance those ideas. This means we could provide more than one design for your approval. First and foremost in the design process we always try to incorporate your ideas.

During the drawing process we also consider all building regulations factors which will include light and ventilation,  fire regulations, structural stability, insulation etc. This will allow us to produce a costing sheet which goes towards the production of the quotation.

Other considerations will be any planning implications such as permitted development rights, conservation areas and area of outstanding natural beauty. We will go on to discuss these items in future blogs.

The building-regulations and planning implication may also mean the end design differs from what we discussed at the initial survey meeting. We will explain in writing the reason for this and perhaps alternatives.

Another important item carried out during this process is to formulate method statements for various health and safety items that could effect your and our staff. This can cover access for scaffolding, instillation of steel girders along with numerous other items. Again this will go on to add to the final costing. Importantly this is an item a lot of companies ignore either through ignorance or to lower the quote .

The quotations we provide are based on using quality materials, installed professionally and in a safe manner.
We do not look to cut corners purely to falsely lower the end cost. The old saying "you pay for what you get" continues to be based on fact.
Finally your personal quotation is bound into an information pack and either posted or emailed to you.

Once quotation is dispatched we do not chase you in pursuit of a sale. Preferring to leave you to study and perhaps compare quotes. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and perhaps meet up again at a time of your choosing.

We look forward to perhaps providing you with a quote?

The Survey

We offer a free survey service so we can provide free no obligation quotations.

During this process we will take photos and measurements from the loft obviously.

 Additional to this and to some peoples surprise we also measure and take details from all floors and the exterior of the property. A loft conversion is a major building operation and many items need to be considered. A few but certainly not an exhaustive list are;

*Your thoughts and ideas
*Planning considerations
*Type of property and how it lends its-self to conversion
*Fire regulations & protected corridor
*Load bearing walls & Foundations
*Drains, plumbing, heating and electrics
*Roof covering and construction
*Access and scaffolding
*Building regulations & party wall issues

These items will go towards the overall picture that we build up of what you require and what is possible.
Any property is convertible within these three criteria, planning, end cost and usability of rooms.
That does not always mean that a conversion should be carried out, we help people in understanding the choices. End cost and size of room that space will allow can be a major factor in the decision process.
We try to offer honest opinion of what is a sensible route to take.

After this process, if the property is "convertible" we will provide a fixed priced no obligation quotation. Either by post or email.

We also have show houses that can be viewed.
This helps people to understand what they may be purchasing . Two of the mains reason are;

*Get a feeling of space in a similar conversion to what that client has in mind.

*Chat to past customers to get an understanding of
Attic Designs has to offer.

We understand the a loft conversion can be a life choice as well as it tends to mean long term investment and future planning of family life. We try to help you understand what a loft conversion will mean in cost and how it fits in with you family needs.           This is why the free survey is so important.

Our New Web Site.

We had been thinking about a new web site for some time. Most of our prospective clients use our site to look at previous examples of  loft conversions and understand more about our company. The old site had served us well but was looking dated and not delivering in terms of the display, content and SEO.

Old site home page

We spent a considerable time in chatting to both local and national web design companies. It was quite an eye opener being in the market as "joe public" and trying to obtain quotations. Some companies preferred to try to blind us with overly complicated descriptions, other offered sites far more than a company of our size required. Most lacked real knowledge and offered out of the box template sites which we could have purchased on line ourselves. As to price, at best some offered estimates of cost.

Having spent the time in researching  a new site we concluded that we needed a site where we could add new content as it become available. A content management site, CMS ticked all our boxes. We could control all aspects of the proposed pages and design.

Via our twitter account we were referred to Darren and the team at Spartan web design from a business colleague.  It became obvious very quickly that these guys knew what they were talking about. Straight answers to my very direct questions plus some great ideas.
We were offered options as to how our site could display and operate. Along with a fixed priced offer and schedule soon after our first meeting.
Having accepted their quotation, the new site went through the various stages required, such as design, content, SEO, testing etc. I was included in the loop all the way and any changes or additions were never a problem.  This was either done at face to face meeting or emails. The choice was mine.
Training was given in using word press to operate Content Management. Once the site was set up I became very quick at understanding the working of CMS in no small part to Matt (clever tech guy). Any email questions was replied to very quickly with clear instructions.
Launch of our site was at a pre-agreed time at which point I was armed with the knowledge of how to alter pages etc.
The New site is exactly what I was looking for and puts me in control with a great team at Spartan behind me. On-going work will be reviewing Goggle rankings and looking to maintain our position.

My advice to anyone looking for a new web site would be to take the time to find out exactly what YOU require. How much input you wish to have and ultimately the goals of the site. A showcase, purely SEO or a mixture.
